At Warehut, we make it easy to set up your preferred shipping methods in Shopify. Here’s how it works.
📦 Setting default shipping methods
You can configure a default domestic shipping method and a default international shipping method for all shipments. To set or update these defaults, please contact your customer service rep.
Once set, you can call your shipping methods anything you like in Shopify (e.g., “Free Shipping,” “Standard Shipping,” etc) except for the reserved terms listed below, because these terms take priority over your default methods, if mapped correctly.
If your default domestic shipping method is a UPS method and the shipping address is a PO Box, we will automatically select a comparable USPS method instead because UPS does not deliver to PO Boxes.
🤔 How shipping method mapping works
If you want to map specific Shopify shipping methods to carriers, the following options are available.
Validly mapped shipping methods override your default shipping methods, so don’t use any of these terms in the names of your shipping methods if you want us to use your default methods.

Note: The shipping method title in Shopify must match the term exactly, including capitalization and spacing, for mapping to work correctly.
🧑⚖️ Important rules for shipping method titles
- The title of the shipping method must exactly match the value in the table above — including capitalization and spacing.
- ✅ Example: “UPS 2nd Day Air” will map correctly.
- ❌ Example: “UPS 2nd Day air” will not map correctly.
- Additional words before or after the required phrase are OK as long as the required phrase is included.
- ✅ “Free UPS 2nd Day Air Shipping” will map correctly.
If there is no exact match, your shipment will fall back to the default standard shipping method you have configured. If you have not configured a default shipping method, your shipment will fall back to the lowest cost method available.
❌ Common mistakes to avoid
✅ “Free Express Shipping” will map to USPS Express, for domestic orders, or UPS Express, for international orders. Both of these are premium express shipping methods that may have more suitable lower cost express alternatives, such as USPS Priority (domestic) or UPS Expedited (international). Avoid using the terms “Priority” and “Express” in shipping method titles unless you specifically require these express methods to minimize postage costs on your account.
